Powerex buys and sells energy through the Alberta Power Pool, direct energy sales and through the Alberta Watt Exchange. We can also customize energy deliveries to meet a customer's individual needs.

	Power Pool - At any given time Powerex may be a buyer or a seller of energy in the real time Power Pool market.
	Bilateral Physicals (Direct Sales) - As an eligible party for direct sales in Alberta, we buy and sell energy using a customized EEI agreement. Direct sales are an Alberta-specific mechanism with bilateral physical transactions, which are negotiated between two parties and which have flexible terms ranging from a few hours to several years. Under direct sales, the energy flow is scheduled through the Power Pool of Alberta.
	Watt Exchange - Powerex is enabled to trade energy through the Alberta Watt Exchange Limited, an electronic exchange designed specifically for the Alberta market.

Financial Products

We offer customers a selection of derivative products to help them hedge against volatile energy market prices. Products include:

	Contracts for Differences - Contracts for Differences are fixed for floating swaps against the Pool Price in Alberta. Trading terms are typically a month, quarter or a year. We trade under a customized Enabling Agreement that is available from us upon request.
	Heat Rate Swaps - Marginal heat rates based on the hourly Pool Price and the AECO gas hub in Alberta under the same Enabling Agreement.
	Options - Put and call options against the Pool Price in Alberta.

Natural Gas

Powerex is responsible for natural gas trade around the supply of gas for BC Hydro's gas generating units. Powerex buys the majority of its natural gas from producers in BC, with transactions taking place mainly at the WEI Station 2, AECO and Huntingdon/Sumas hubs.
